چکیده

Nowadays there is a wide range of systems that provide an efficient and fast data capture for the DEM generation and the spread of the computer systems has allowed the use of DEM to a high number of technicians. Unfortunately, the DEM analysis tools do not have similar development. Actually, the analyses are mainly based in the application of local scale operators that provide additional information. In this paper we present a methodology based on the geostatistical techniques applied to the analysis and classification of the different terrain morphologies obtained from the DEM. It is based on the use of several parameters obtained from the spatial autocorrelation functions together with other parameters obtained directly from the DEM following a moving-windows schema. Through this process it is possible to obtain a multivariate digital model that include information relative to the terrain heights, like, for example, variability, continuity level and anisotropies. A non-supervised classification process is applied to the multivariate digital model. This classification allows selecting the more interesting parameters in order to make the final classification. The main advantage of this method is based on its capabilities of the DEM analysis following a multiscalar schema. The analysis can include very interesting aspects like the anisotropies and other information derived from the structural analysis. This methodology is illustrated with an application example to the Guadix-Baza basin (S of Spain). * Corresponding author.

Assessment of Terrain and Land Use/Land Cover Changes of Mine Sites using Geospatial Techniques in Plateau State, Nigeria

In this paper, we report a geospatial assessment of the selected mine sites in the Plateau State, Nigeria. The aim of this work is to determine the impact of mining on the terrain as well as the Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) of the host communities. The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is used for the terrain mapping. The derived impact of mining on LULC between 1975 and 2014 is determined...

Mapping Spatial Variability of Soil Salinity Using Remote Sensing Data and Geostatistical Analysis: A Case of Shadegan, Khuzestan

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Soil salinity is one of the most important desertification parameters in many parts of the world. Thus, preparing soil salinity maps in macro scales is necessary. Water and soil salinity as one of the contributing parameters in desertification, cause soil and vegetation degradation. Soil salinization represents many negative effects on the earth systems such ...

Application of multivariate statistics and geostatistical techniques to identify the spatial variability of heavy metals in groundwater resources

The performance of geostatistical and spatial interpolation techniques for estimation of spatial variability of heavy metals and water quality mapping of groundwater resources in Ramiyan district (Golestan province- Iran) were investigated. 24 spring/well water samples were collected and the concentration of heavy metals (Ni, Co, Pb, Cd and Cu) was determined using Differential Pulse Polarograp...

Presenting a Morphological Based Approach for Filtering The Point Cloud to Extract the Digital Terrain Model

The Digital terrain model is an important geospatial product used as the basis of many practical projects related to geospatial information. Nowadays, a dense point cloud can be generated using the LiDAR data. Actually, the acquired point cloud of the LiDAR, presents a digital surface model that contains ground and non-ground objects. The purpose of this paper is to present a new approach of ex...

A Global Grid Model Based on "Constant Area" Quadrilaterals

The WGS84 ellipsoid is tessellated using quadrilaterals of roughly the same size. The tessellation scheme is developed for the purpose of storing, distributing and analysing global as well as local digital terrain models. Compared with DTED, the new grid has a more uniform distribution of cell sizes. This equal area property of the tiles of the grid is an attractive characteristic in geostatist...
